Golf Safari in Kenya

Jambo! On arrival at the airport, you will be met by our representative who will assist with the transfer to Windsor Golf Hotel Country Club. You will be greeted with a welcome drink and receive a detailed safari briefing, check into your room, and relax before setting out for dinner. (D)

Breakfast at the Windsor Golf and Country club and then you will enjoy your first round of golf at this 6751 yards par 72-18 hole course. Windsor Golf and Country Club is the only African golf resort to be a member of “Great Golf Resorts of the World”. This 18-hole championship length golf course, threads its way through coffee farms and indigenous forest, and features lush fairways, fast greens and a number of testing water hazards. The fifth, at 640 yards from the back tees is one of the longest par fives anywhere in the world. Not only does this course provide the golfer with extreme and unique challenges, but it also immerses you in a magnificent environment. You will have lunch at the club and then have the rest of the afternoon at your leisure to either enjoy another round of golf or make use of the other amenities offered by the club. These include tennis, two squash courts, steam, sauna, heated pool, in-house videos and bird walks to name but a few. The beauty salon also offers spa treatments. (B,L,D)

Karen Golf Country Club is a 6953 yards, par 71 - 18 hole course and home of the Kenya Open in 2004 and 2005. Considered by some to be one of the prettiest courses in Kenya. Karen Country Club is a must play. It is certainly one of the top 18-hole championship courses in the country. The course is next to the house of Karen Blixen - the author of "Out of Africa". Lunch will be at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens. The non golfers will tour some of the famous Nairobi sites. Starting with the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage which has a nursery and rehab center for infant elephants that have lost their families. Later, visit a nature center run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife. An elevated observation walkway allows you to get face to face with 18-foot-tall Rothschild’s giraffes. In 1974 Jock Leslie-Melville, grandson of a Scottish earl, and his wife Betty founded the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) and proceeded to move five babies of the highly endangered Rothschild giraffe to their property where they have been successfully reared and have since produced their own offspring. Betty chronicled these events in her book, Raising Daisy Rothschild. Lunch will be at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens. Later, you will be transferred back to Windsor for overnight. (B,L,D)

Explore the Great Rift Valley, a huge geological fault-line that stretches around one-sixth of the Earth’s circumference, visible from far out in space and a Olorgesailie Prehistoric Site. Along the valley’s length, there are many volcanoes (most of them dormant). We will have lunch at the Great Rift Valley Lodge. The lodge is built on the Eburru, which the Massai refer to as “Ol Donyo Opurru” (mountain of smoke). In the afternoon, you will enjoy a round of golf. The Rift Valley Golf Club is a 5940, par 72 - 18 hole challenging course with a spectacular setting. The first player to break the par here, the Irish professional David Jones, described it as the best young course he had ever played on. Dinner at your luxurious lodge. (B,L,D)

Depart to Lake Nakuru National Park for a game viewing drive with lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. Lake Nakuru National Park is a shallow alkaline lake that is world-renowned for its huge concentration of flamingos; at times, hundreds of thousands of these birds give the lake a pink shimmering glow. The park boasts a huge variety of animals, including the leopard which is often found snoozing on the branches of the magnificent yellow-barked acacias. The endangered Rothschild’s giraffe are only found at this park in Kenya, white rhino and the rare black rhino are also protected and guarded here. For the bird-watching enthusiast there are 450 species found in the park vicinity, with a vast concentration of water birds including Marabou Stork, pelican, and of course the world-famous flocks of flamingo. Later, you will be transferred to Loldia airstrip. Fly on Safari Link with an estimated departure time of 3:30 pm to Maasai Mara Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve, the setting for much of the film Out of Africa. On arrival, you will be met by your naturalist driver guides. You will be transferred to Mara Intrepids Camp with a game viewing en route. Arrive for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Full day of wildlife-viewing opportunities in the Maasai Mara Reserve, also known as the “Jewel of Africa,” a site with one of the largest and the most spectacular animal migrations in the world. The reserve is inhabited by many of Africa's most popular wild animals, including lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, black rhino and hippo. There are also over 500 resident species of birds in the park including ostrich, larks and sunbirds as well as the lovely Lilac-breasted Roller. You may choose to add an optional balloon ride safari to your itinerary. It begins in the early morning and you have an hour of uninterrupted views of wildlife from the air, the best way to see the migration and the incessant movement of animals in the Mara. When you are once again on terra firma, you will be treated to a champagne brunch, set especially for you in the middle of the plains. Zebra and wildebeest may be your dining guests, and Africa’s colorful birds may be vying for a crumb of your bread. Another activity will be a visit to a local Maasai village for a cultural tour. Today’s full day of game drive viewing will highlight a different section of the reserve which covers a total area of 700 square miles and forms part of the Serengeti ecosystem, hosting the world famous spectacle of the annual migration of up to two million wildebeest, thousands of zebra and an escort of carnivores from the Serengeti plains that follow the rains and succulent new grass. A costly trek as many of the lame, haggard and sick will fall prey to the ravening pack of predators and many more will die in the swirling flood waters of the Mara River as they try to cross it. The Mara also has one of the highest concentrations of cheetah on the continent, as well as many magnificent black-maned lions. Overnight at the Mara Intrepids Camps. (B, L, D)

Early morning game viewing drive. After this last taste of Africa, you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. You will be met at the Wilson airport and transferred to the JKIA for your departure flight back home. (B)
